Recommended approach is to migrate to the new PDS FHIR API: https://digital.nhs.uk/developer/api-catalogue/personal-demographics-service-smsp/migrating-from-the-pds-smsp-api-to-the-pds-fhir-api
Although no retirement date is given, it is prudent to move to the FHIR API sooner, rather than later. There will be a similar assurance requirement (SCAL) to go live which, according to NHS Digital, is identical to the assurance requirements completed for the existing SMSP PDS API service.
